Description:
Early 1940's Honus Wagner Single Signed Baseball. "You can have your Cobbs, your Lajoies, your Chases, your Bakers," once said Hall of Fame manager John McGraw, "but I'll take Wagner as my pick of the greatest." Perhaps best remembered as the face on the most valuable baseball card in the world, the legendary Pittsburgh Pirates shortstop remains a particularly tough autograph despite his many years in uniform, first as a player and later as a coach for the team he loved. Here we encounter him upon an OAL (Harridge) ball dating to the World War II years, a game used sphere blessed with the boldest Wagner autograph we've ever seen on horsehide. The highly desirable "J. Honus Wagner" autograph variation is underscored by the words "Pirates Coach," likewise penned in the Old Dutchman's 9+/10 black fountain pen ink. Until the unlikely prospect of a superior specimen materializes, we'll consider this the dominant Wagner solo in the hobby. Full LOA from James Spence Authentication.
