Description:
Y is for Young,
The magnificent Cy;
People batted against him,
But I never knew why.

"Lineup for Yesterday," by Ogden Nash.

1950 Cy Young Single Signed Baseball. The man whose name is synonymous with pitching excellence ranks right up there with Ruth and Cobb in terms of hobby essentials, but his singles are tougher to find than either of his inaugural Hall of Fame classmates' as Young spent his retirement in much greater seclusion on an Ohio farm. We've handled a few Young singles in our day, but this might be the finest of them all, the "Special League" sphere boasting a 9/10 black fountain pen signature on the side panel in Young's charming and distinctive scrawl. He dates his autograph to "3-1-50" just below, five years before his passing at age eighty-eight. The ball itself is lightly and evenly toned, with two-tone stitching that quite effectively mimics the Official spheres of Young's Dead Ball Era dominance. Unquestionably one of the leading examples of a woefully thin population. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Full LOA from James Spence Authentication.
