Description:
1981 Los Angeles Dodgers World Championship Trophy Presented to Jerry Doggett. Famed Dodger broadcaster Jerry Doggett owned this sparkling example of the club's 1981 World Series triumph over their longtime rivals the Yankees. Doggett was Vin Scully's sidekick for more than three decades dating all the way back to 1956 in Brooklyn. The twelve-inch tall Balfour trophy is among the most coveted and recognizable in all of modern sports, with twenty-six pennants representing all of the major league teams encircling an elaborate baseball and crown arrangement that also features two press pins - Yankees and Dodgers - from the 1981 Series. The brass plate circling the 7-inch diameter base states "Los Angeles Dodgers World Championship Trophy, presented by the Commissioner of Baseball, October 28, 1981, Jerry Doggett." The finish of the 1981 World Series brought down the curtain on a grotesque Major League campaign marred by a two-month strike that elicited curious maneuvers by MLB to create a playoff system that would fairly address the shortened season and still maintain fan interest.
